Our History

Casa Latina was founded in 1994 by a group of community activists who had been working with Latino homeless in Seattle. They saw the need for an organization that would organize and provide Latinos a stronger voice for recent Latino immigrant laborers.

Since its beginnings, Casa Latina has grown greatly in both size and stature. Our first year, our budget was $25,000, and served 350 adults with ESL classes and other educational outreach programs. Now, in 2009, Casa Latina has a staff of 14, two full-time AmeriCorps members, one work-study student, and over 50 regular volunteers to run four programs. Our annual budget for operations is over $700,000, and we directly serve over 2,500 people: over 750 immigrants and 750 customers (both homeowners and contractors) annually.
