The CASA Latina Day Workers' Center, in Belltown, is a facility where day workers can assemble for dispatch to jobs. While waiting, they can participate in English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) classes, informational workshops and skills training. The Center also provides help and support for those needing access to social and health services. We are committed to fostering quality work relationships. We are working with other Belltown organizations to create a peaceful coexistence of diverse communities and keep Belltown a vibrant place to live and work.

The Day Workers' Center was realized with the outstanding support of over 150 community businesses, individual donors, private foundations, the Belltown Advisory Committee, and volunteers.
Since the Day Workers' Center opened in July 1999, over 2000 workers have registered to work through the Center. Over 51,600 temporary jobs have been dispatched, and over 1100 workers have been placed in permanent full-time jobs. The minimum wage for day labor has gone from $7.00 to $12.00 an hour.
Educational ProgramsEnglish as a Second Language Classes Free ESL classes are offered Mondays through Saturdays in the mornings at the Day Workers' Center. Classes are taught by community volunteers who are trained and supported by a full-time AmeriCorps member. Classes include "Practical English," exploring issues ranging from finding a job to health care, and also English writing and reading classes for more advanced students. Community Literacy Workshops Every Tuesday morning, meetings are held in Spanish at the Workers' Center to help workers adapt to our community. Topics include how to call Metro for bus directions, how to use the phone book and how to file taxes. In addition, staff from other agencies that offer services to our community come to speak about their services.
Information and Referral Services Our community advocates give out information daily at our offices to newly arrived immigrants to orient them to Seattle.
