Porfirio has seen a lot in his fifty years, but when he left school at a young age, he never imagined that two of his children would actually be able to attend college...

Porfirio would rather be at home with his family, but the declining economy brought him to Seattle last fall, in search of a job that could help keep his children and grandchildren in school. Thanks to his persistence and his English teachers’ support, he has succeeded in acquiring a nearly full-time position that he enjoys and that pays well. But Porfirio still comes back to Casa Latina for classes, additional job opportunities, and to visit with staff and participants, who have become a second family for him.
